Get away from it all and gain an inside view of an authentic working family ranch... ride the foothills, check cattle, fix fence, learn to rope the dummy or just kick back and relax.

"The Cowpuncher"
12 nights/11 days includes accommodation, meals, riding and ranch activities.  Guests will experience cattle work and learn the basic techniques of working cattle and ranch roping.  Riding experience would be beneficial.

"Boots, Chaps & Cowboy Hats" - Lucasia Ranch Branding Week (June 5-11)
6 nights/7 days accommodation; cattle roundup, branding and neighbourhood social.
Take in a traditional branding experience that even today, echoes the practices of the past. Help the crew gather, sort and brand; you're welcome to observe or pitch in and learn the basics.

Cattle Drives

nights/7 days accommodation, meals, riding, and moving cattle plus other ranch activities
May 28-June 3 - "Head 'Em Up" - Spring Yearling Drive
  Help us move the yearlings to summer pasture; get the know the country and your horse. Spend one day gathering and separating then the next, moving cattle deeper into the foothills to summer pasture.
July 17-23 - "Move 'Em Out" - Summer Cattle Drive
  These heifers have spent a little time with the bull - now it's time for them to join the rest of the cattle in the summer pasture.
Oct 8-14 - "Rocky Mountain Roundup" - Fall Gather
  Spend a week gathering, sorting and bringing cattle home from the community pasture.

* All Cattle drives require experienced riders
Horseback Riding
Ride with a guide over Lucasia ranchland or in the fenced roping arena located right in the ranchyard
$25./hour (minimum 2 hrs) for non-registered guests. Also, riding lessons available for $25./hour

Your local Alberta biologist guide will share her knowledge of the region's rich natural and human history as you walk over the same landscape that was traveled by First Nations People, explorers and settlers over 100 years ago.

"Spend time in touch with the land, learn what local plants are edible and ride the range on Horseback on this weekend getaway in the Heartland of Cowboy country." You are invited to join us at the Lucasia Ranch deep in the Porcupine Hills, to hike in the Whaleback and harvest on the ranch the edible plants the early European Women brought across the ocean for the families’ pantry! This fun and rewarding adventure is guaranteed to tickle your taste buds with the fruits of our harvest!
Our guide, Julie Walker, Program Director of Full Circle Adventures has dined on native and non-native plant species as part of her Natural History adventures since the 1980’s. Come on out and try what local ranchers call a “Weed and Feed!”

Participants need:
Outdoor shoes, rain gear, water bottle, a small day pack, sun screen, bug spray, sun hat, gloves, comfortable outdoor clothing for hiking and /or gardening type adventures.
Optional items: plant books, camera, sketch tools, gardening gloves
and trowel.

Heritage Edible Plant WeekendLucasia Ranch will provide:
Shovels, bags or buckets, food, accommodations and acres of beautiful land to roam for the harvest!

Lucasia Ranch Cancellation Policy
*
50% of the your package cost is required for confirmation of your Lucasia Ranch stay. The balance is due upon arrival.
* Should a cancellation occur after the 30 days, the booking is paid for and there will be no refund.
* If a cancellation should occur 31 or more days prior to the booking, a handling fee of $150 + GST per booking will be due and payable to Lucasia Ranch Vacations.
