Judy & Wayne's UK trip continued... |
|
On the 6th of September we took the train to the Lake District. We had a short stop at Kidderminster where we stayed with James, Katey and Lizzie who took us on a tour of Ludlow Castle.
The Lakeland District and Villages are a great place to stay and visit. While there we took in the West Moorland Country Show which is the biggest one day show in the country. It truly was worth seeing. Every breed of farm animal was shown here. |

You really wonder how hundreds of years ago, people gathered all of the rocks and built Hadrian’s Wall and Vindolanda. Our knowledge of history has really improved since our travels, but I still have more books to read.
At Carlisle we got brave and rented a car. Wayne drove, not me. As we entered Scotland we were welcomed by Jim and Laura Johnstone at Dumfries. They took us to a Clyde show at Lanark (where we ran into a friend from Didsbury) and a ploughing match at one of Robbie Burns’s homes. Jim uses a team to log with. |

From Dumfries we drove (yes, we got lost, A LOT) to Dailly in Ayr. We saw more Castles, something I (Judy) never tire of. One day we spent at Millisle Farm with Hugh, Margaret and Elaine Ramsay. They raise quality Clydesdale horses and showed us around the southern most part of Scotland.
When we returned our car to Preswick airport, Dave and Margaret Latto, (who visited us in July this year) drove all the way to the west side of Scotland to pick us up and return us to their home near St Andrews on the east side of Scotland. Enroute we saw the great Stirling Castle.
Two days later they drove us into Edinburgh where we spent 3 days checking out the Royal Palace at Holyrood and Edinburgh Castle. The buildings were phenomenal and I very much enjoyed the sights. Wayne got a little claustrophobic with all the people. You know he is country all through. |

Our last night in Scotland was spent with Esther’s folks, Gordon and Norma Clibborn, who kindly took us to the Glasgow airport at 6:30 am.
This was truly a trip of a lifetime and again we Thank all of those who made it so.
To all of you - a little quote I found:
MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS BE BIG AND YOUR PATHS BE HAPPY TRAILS
Most sincerely... Wayne and Judy |
